The crisis is manufactured by politicians. It would evaporate if we allowed people to be assessed in a timely manner and to be accepted by Australia if they are genuine refugees. Then they could work, educate their children and make a contribution to Australia. The Vietnamese who came in the eighties have provided ample proof that this works.
