Combined churches Lent bread and soup lunches
By Roger Grealy
Last year BMRSG member Roger Grealy was invited to be the guest speaker at a men’s breakfast at St Finbar’s Catholic Church in Glenbrook.
He gave an outline of who we are and what we do.
Following this two things happened; first BMRSG was chosen to be the nominated charity to receive funds raised at each of four breakfasts in 2023. Each breakfast is expected to raise a few hundred dollars.
Then the very welcoming and dynamic parish priest of St Finbars, Father Joe Lam arranged with his fellow Glenbrook clergy, Baptist Pastor Adrian Buggs and Uniting Church Minister Rev Ellie Elia, to make BMRSG the charity to benefit from their 2023 Lent Soup and Bread lunches. (Last years beneficiary was Gateway Family Services of Blaxland.)
Roger spoke at the first event at St Finbars, BMRSG member and Baptist Yvonne Wilson spoke at the Baptist lunch and long term BMRSG representative, Jackie Mayers addressed the final lunch in the Uniting Church hall.
Each speaker was able to increase the knowledge and understanding of our work in the broader community.
Our combined income from the three lunches is expected to total at least $3,000.
Lots of goodwill was created from these lunches, lots of good feedback was received and much education about the plight of refugees was disseminated.
